The Presentation
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
Hi, welcome to my recording. I am someone who worked on
this game, PhalanxDuel.com, and I just wanted to do a
little demo, put it out there, you know? Maybe some people
will play, you know, why not? Over here it says, Phalanx Duel is a deterministic tactical
battle on a 4x2 grid.
Mike Hall

▶ Speaking
No luck, no boosters, just a
geometric consequence of your deployment. Red protects,
blue attacks. Execute the briefing. Here is the Enter the Duel and the Ax
is Briefing, which is kind of like a tutorial or like
telling you what you could do.
Mike Hall

▶ Speaking
Here are some like things I
can help you with like pairings and like Combat Lab,
obviously, all these things you can click on them. I will not be going through, so if you want to, you can go
through. Here are some little demos of like things that
happen. Command console, which is where you can go, scroll down, or
if you want to go up here, enter the duel, you'll be
brought down to there.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
Here is where you want to put your username. You'll pick
what mode you want to do. LP, or core LP, is your life
points, and that's how many, you know, times you can be
attacked without, you know, dying. So, the grid, obviously, is changeable, as you can see here
.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
I can change it, but I will just be doing 2x4 right now. There are two different AIs currently. AI Easy, AI Medium. There will be things added, maybe hard or difficulty or
extreme, but that is for the future, so I'll full screen
now.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
I have input, my name is Sam. We'll do cumulative, and we
'll go against AI Easy. As you can see, it is a 2x4 grid. How the game works is, you take cards, you place them
wherever you want.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
Once you have placed your whole grid of cards, you can
start the dueling phase. So, currently, we're in
preparation. Another thing that you must need to know is, kings can only
destroy kings, queens can only destroy queens, and jokers
can only destroy jokers. But, every card they can, like, kill, like, a king can kill
itself, but it can kill a queen and a joker.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
A queen can kill itself, and a joker. A joker can kill
itself, and anything below it. Same goes for all the other cards. But they cannot hit up, unless they're numbered cards.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
Then, they're free to hit whatever they want, but they
cannot kill it. Another thing that is important, aces. Aces, although they
have 1 HP, as you can see here, they can only also be
destroyed by another ace. So, they can be quite annoying, but in a game like Cum
ulative, they're pretty handy, actually.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
So, we'll stack 2 kings here. We'll do a queen here. Queen here. Let's do 6.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
Let's do 8. Joker. 10. See, you don't really have to be very, you know, strategic
when it comes to this bot.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
Well, we'll do king attacks this. And you see, over here, on the side, it'll show the turns. Turn 1. King attacked column 1, which is my king here.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
Attack this. The A bot, set ace, attack column 1, which he attacked my
king. As you can see, the HP is right there. I'll attack again.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
I'll do some damage. I'll destroy some cards. Attack again. And you can keep going.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
And a thing you need to know is, once the card is destroyed
, you must place another. You cannot just leave something open, because, you know, it
's not really good. So, we'll attack again. And we'll just do one last attack.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
And there we go. We win. For cumulative, the way it works is, you take an attacker,
it'll attack this card. But let's say the attacker is a king.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
It deals 10 damage. That is, you know, 5 of clubs. So, it took 5 damage, but there's still 5 more damage that
can be dealt. There's a queen now behind it.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
So, let's just say that 5 damage that was not used is
carried over and hits the queen. So, now, she's at 6 HP. So, that is how it works. There's also an AI medium, which is much smarter than this
bot.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
It'll use higher level cards, and it'll have, like, a
little bit of strategy. So, we'll do a little bit of, you know, strategy. Let's see. Not a very good starting hand, but, I'm going to make what
...
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
Oh, I see. Okay. Yeah, this game, it's a little bit of luck, but it's also
skill-based in some parts. But, you know, it's a game.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
It's fun. Let's see. Where should I attack? Let's go here.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
As you can see over here, hostile LP, life points, 3. I have 13. So, clearly, I'm in the lead. Although, this game can change very quickly.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
I think I'm going to win, though, personally. Let's see. I, personally, I enjoy the strategy of just spamming down
one column. It works a lot.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
Yeah, there we go. We won. Yeah. And this is just a little demo of a game I have been
working on with my father.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
There's a leaderboard currently, not many players. That is my father. We have PvP versus AI, easy versus AI, medium. Like I said earlier, or I might not have said, we are
planning on making different levels of AI bots, possibly.
Mike Hall
Host, phalanx-duel
▶ Speaking
A hard bot and a maybe insane bot. There are going to be many more things we're going to add. So, this is just something that we're working on, you know,
just like a skeleton of what we're trying to do. So, I hope you play the game.
